Mindset.
Who or what are the biggest obstacles you face when you want to change your health for the better? What stops you from starting today?
Imagine this. You’ve hired a health coach. You’ve paid the monthly fee. You decided you want to make those necessary changes. You’ve decided to take action in achieving your health goals. You have your preliminary health history session. You have your bespoke diet plan and shopping list and recipes. You get the goods. You’re stoked and geared up to start tomorrow morning. It’s tomorrow morning…and you fall into the same routine. You skip breakfast. You don’t pack the lunch for work. You come home starving and burnt out. You ignore your diet plan. You binge eat on a bag of crisps and tea and biscuits. You’re still hungry and binge eat at dinner….cheesecake for dessert and scrolling lying in bed.
Have you ever faced this scenario? If so, what is causing you to not start and not follow through on your plan to achieve your optimal health goals?

Mindset. The path to optimal health is your mindset. It’s your way of thinking and your opinion and your habits that are consciously influencing your everyday routine and your self-perception. When you begin a new journey, you might be physically present at the moment, but not mentally invested yet. When we make statements like “I’ve made up my mind to change….” or “My head just isn’t in the game,” then we instinctively know our mindset is what’s key to our successes or failures.
How do you tune into your mindset for those crucial habit and opinion changes?
Even if you’ve done all the prep work for change, you will have to take a few minutes a day to tune into your mind sans distractions. For example, you’ve been advised to eliminate all dairy products because you are lactose intolerant. You know you have to do this to improve your digestion. You’ve been given a plan to guide you through this and have upcoming weekly sessions to help you get there, but you forget and don’t feel up to it today, procrastinating, having the dairy and feeling physically and mentally awful.

Therefore in order to change your mindset, you have to bring about awareness of the habit you want to change. Whenever you get free time during your day, jot down the steps you need to take to eliminate dairy, and not have a craving for it.
- Don’t buy anymore dairy.
- Give away all the dairy products you’ve been asked to eliminate to a neighbour or friend.
- If you reside with family and friends who can consume dairy, then ask them to support you in changing this habit, by being accountable to them.
- Allot 3 mins 2 times a day for meditation or self-talk. Yes, talk to yourself. Believe in yourself that you can make the change. Self-efficacy plays a strong role in changing your mindset. You are your best friend.
- Remember the goal, daily. Optimal digestion means optimal health.
In this way you will create new neural pathways in your brain. The brain is elastic and can be manipulated through consistency and focus to change habits and elevate your mindset.
Don’t be afraid of change. Mindset is a Biohack.
