Managing Menopause

because that’s the only way to get through this phase of your life!

We will all encounter it. Menopause is defined as that time in a woman’s life when her period has stopped coming for one year in a row. No more eggs are released to be fertilised. Estrogen hormone levels decrease. Progesterone hormone wave’s bye-bye! FSH goes up as it can no longer regulate the sex hormones.; since they’ve all checked out!

There are 3 stages of Menopause:

  1. Peri-menopause.
  2. Menopause.
  3. Post Menopause.

For most women, 45 onward sees a significant change in the fat distribution on their bodies. The lower abdomen and hips gain fat and widen respectively. Your body has turned pear-shaped. It’s harder to lose weight in spite of all your effort. A new set of symptoms surface:

  1. Hot flashes
  2. Insomnia
  3. Achy joints
  4. Brain fog
  5. Mood swings (they never leave a woman!)
  6. Poor memory and poor concentration
  7. Urinary urgency and incontinence.
  8. Frequent UTI’s
  9. Depression
  10. Sarcopenia and osteopenia

To name a few.

All because Estrogen levels have sharply declined.

Peri-menopause- menopause- post menopause. This whole process can last from 5-10 years. The good news is that it can be managed as you go along. First of all you have to accept the changes that are happening to your body and your mind. Acceptance helps bring down the stress that may arise from being helpless with the symptoms. Especially the body changes and hot flashes. They are the most physically obvious and common symptoms that come with menopause. You can actively discuss with a health coach, and your doctor, about your symptoms. Check-in with your friends if they’re experiencing the same things. Then you know you aren’t alone. A health coach such as myself can help navigate you through the changes and recommend dietary and lifestyle changes. Focusing on diet and lifestyle are the best ways to manage menopause naturally and for longevity. A health coach can offer you support with any of the symptoms you might be facing.

Book a session via WhatsApp or email if you are going through menopause and need help navigating this crucial step in your life. It’s like puberty all over again!

Looking forward.

Sonia.

Is there such a thing as super-food?

Dear Reader,
You will have noticed that I haven’t put many pictures of fruit and vegetables on my website. Albeit: I’ve pictures up of delicious desserts and flamboyant, fancy coffee!

Depending on the occasion, they all are superfoods! Fruit and veggies, cake and coffee. Super food can be subjective.

Yes. Of course wellness and well-being are all about eating whole foods first. The primary sources of nutrition that are always superfoods are those grown in the sun, soil and on trees; that have been made with the help of birds, butterflies and bees.

If you sign-up for coaching sessions for any of of the problems mentioned on the mind-map, natural superfoods are what you will be eating.
No doubt.

However food is medicine. The poison is in the dose. And we are more than just a body. Coaching through a Being-Well lens means knowing when to have your cake guilt-free, because I know how hard it is to make switches in your diet when you eat for health’s sake. Giving up on your daily biscuit at tea time can be depressing. It weighs on your mental health. It can even lead to a tantrum.

If you learn not to gratify your desires instantly, and know the occasions of when you can have creamy, dreamy pudding, then temptations won’t govern your mind. Our sessions together will help train your mind to be patient by recognising your triggers and eat with intention to heal.
