I’m beginning a 5 part series over the course of this year highlighting the other challenges you may be facing that hinder your weight-loss and/or health goals that don’t relate to what is on your plate. “Coaching beyond the plate,” is a concept which shifts the focus from the food you’re eating to certain lifestyle factors.
What for?
If you’re eating a healthy diet and exercising and still gaining weight, then lifestyle factors are important to investigate. This could range from low vitamin D levels, hormonal imbalances to stress management, poor gut health, quality of sleep, your relationships and the health of your vagus nerve. All these affect your mental and emotional health and energy levels. And yes, metabolism.

Stress: It’s the feeling that arises when an external or internal trigger causes the release of nor-epinephrine or adrenaline from the adrenal glands. That’s right, the body’s response to stress is a hormonal one. Chronic stress can wreak havoc on your entire hormonal system, leading to poor sleep, poor eating habits, negative thinking, anxiety, weight gain and stored belly fat, and shorter life-span.
You’ve probably read a lot about it. Cortisol level is a much discussed topic but can be confusing you on what to do and not! I get particularly disturbed when people advise me not to run anymore.
Don’t stress yourself out! Stress management is one of the most important aspects that we will cover together in our health coaching sessions.
