Style Therapy

When I get a new client, the first thing I notice when she walks into my office is her body language and what she is wearing. When we really get into our health history, her body language and her sense of style begin to make sense to me. Her body language tells me about her self confidence; her posture, her gait, eye contact. Her style; her choice of clothes, her hair style, her shoes, her bag, all together communicate to me her sense of self worth. They communicate to me the stage in their life that they are living in; their existence right now. What emotions are influencing this silent communication, between their subjective selves and the world? What factors in their personal lives are influencing their style? How much time do they have in their daily routines to take care of themselves? If they’re in gym attire, then they definitely have the time to exercise. Some come immaculately dressed. Some are dressed confused because they’ve gained weight and don’t know what to wear, some are dressed to hide and don’t want to be seen…it allows me to meet my client where they are at, currently.

Health coaching is a judgement free zone par excellence. However to achieve a deeper understanding about yourself, your eating habits, why you can or cannot stick to long term diet and lifestyle goals, your personal style reveals to me the state of your mental and emotional health. Style therapy is that component of our health coaching sessions which can be done separately with diet and lifestyle changes not at the forefront. Revealing your deepest feelings about yourself, your life, your experiences will help you understand your style better and if you have the desire to change it.

How will style therapy work?

  1. We would have a regular health history session to start, with a few questions in the end where you can describe your current style, and what you would rather want it to be.
  2. We would set a goal on how you would like to achieve this change.
  3. If you want to lose some weight at the same time we can discuss diet and lifestyle changes.
  4. We can discuss more sustainable buying options to not break the bank when making changes to your personal style.
  5. We will dive deeper into your personal life experiences that influenced your personal style today.
  6. Are you seeking outward validation from the world when you dress?
  7. Are you looking to hide behind your clothes and not reveal your personality?
  8. Are you constantly judging others for being too flashy or gaudy?
  9. What if you have achieved your style goal already? And don’t want to change it? We can still have these focused sessions on your personal style to help you understand yourself better.
  10. What if you want to shop less now, but can’t break the habit? How can you make a shift to sustainable practices?
  11. Are you concerned and confused about “forever chemicals,” PFA’s?
  12. Do you engage in retail therapy, and wonder why?

As always, you will talk, I will prompt, listen and guide. Each session lasts up to an hour. You will take home practical tips and exercises to make subtle changes, step by step, and of course realise how you need to make changes in your life in other areas. And with that you will find your own desired style; the one you imagine yourself wearing, that truly represents you. Your personal style reflects a big part of your lifestyle, coupled with diet and exercise recommendations, you can love your authentic self.

“I am a Nutrition and Being-Well Coach. My training is from IIN in NYC in Holisitc Health Counselling. I started my private practice in 2017 and as I gained clientele, I wanted to delve deeper in to the root causes of bad health whilst helping women reach their weight loss goals.

I earned 3 more certifications from IIN in Gut Health, Hormone Health and then later one in The Psychology of Food.

Is there such a thing as super-food?

Dear Reader,
You will have noticed that I haven’t put many pictures of fruit and vegetables on my website. Albeit: I’ve pictures up of delicious desserts and flamboyant, fancy coffee!

Depending on the occasion, they all are superfoods! Fruit and veggies, cake and coffee. Super food can be subjective.

Yes. Of course wellness and well-being are all about eating whole foods first. The primary sources of nutrition that are always superfoods are those grown in the sun, soil and on trees; that have been made with the help of birds, butterflies and bees.

If you sign-up for coaching sessions for any of of the problems mentioned on the mind-map, natural superfoods are what you will be eating.
No doubt.

However food is medicine. The poison is in the dose. And we are more than just a body. Coaching through a Being-Well lens means knowing when to have your cake guilt-free, because I know how hard it is to make switches in your diet when you eat for health’s sake. Giving up on your daily biscuit at tea time can be depressing. It weighs on your mental health. It can even lead to a tantrum.

If you learn not to gratify your desires instantly, and know the occasions of when you can have creamy, dreamy pudding, then temptations won’t govern your mind. Our sessions together will help train your mind to be patient by recognising your triggers and eat with intention to heal.
